LIVE FROM ANIME WEEKEND ATLANTA 2011!! Uh, Guy talks with fandumb legends Dave Merrill and Steve Harrison about Lensman, Pulp novels, Science Fiction, the Kardashians, and Isaac Asimov’s sexual prowess (while eating powdered donuts).

That picture of Steve might well have been taken by Diane Arbus.
Lens…MAN. The comic book that launched my career. Warts and all.
-Tim Eldred
I didn’t know comic book publishers gave people warts.
Halfway through the podcast we were like, “gee, you know who should be here talking about this, is Tim…” We’ll have to do a followup next year.
Actually, yeah, a panel on licensed property comics, or something, I dunno.
I still have an original page of that Eternity Lensman comic, inked by Paul Young.
I should just pitch my podcast recording as a panel. I’ll be the laziest nerd ever!
FYI: I save all the podcasts to archive.org so, to some degree, this is me doing some historical archiving.

HAHAHAHAHAAHHA
Dig it, bro, you’re cutting edge! Someone else puts Asimov and E.E. Smith together in one article! Complete with best pic ever of Asimov!

I’ve heard a rumor that Asimov’s sideburns still attend SF conventions and have written another 50 books… 🙂
The best part about that article is that the comments bring up Mission to Mars.
I wonder if Paul Chapman ever reviewed that on his podcast.
My co-host has a very special bond with that “film”.
Great job on the podcast guys!
By the way, here’s scans of the LD covers in case you like to check ’em out.
Japanese (Pony Video)

American (Lumivision)

And as a bonus, here’s the covers to the “Anime Comics” books!

Apart from what was said about the cruddy VHS release from Streamline (though “Best Film & Video Corp” was responsible for releasing the damn thing in EP Mode if you had one of those tapes), the LaserDisc edition of the English dub actually doesn’t sound too bad from the copy I have, plus the colors are more balanced than how it appeared on those tapes where the blue hues just seem to take over everything else.
I’d love to get a copy of this on LD eventually, as soon as I get a player to play it on.
Certainly one of those keepers in my collection!
Chris, Steve, and Dave need to be on a special episode of Hoarders.
Haha!
That was a great episode, I love you guys.
